When disaster strikes, the first hours and days are critical. Communities are left reeling, emergency responders are stretched thin, and local nonprofits mobilize to provide food, shelter, and medical support. For companies who want to help, knowing where to start can feel overwhelming.
That’s why Goodstack has created practical solutions to help companies take meaningful action during crises by mobilizing their networks, supporting trusted nonprofits, and enabling volunteer efforts (where applicable). We simplify response efforts to drive swift, effective impact, both financially and on the ground.
Our framework for disaster response
Our internal processes ensure we’re ready to respond quickly to crises and offer resources to our corporate partners to get involved. Our work falls into three key phases:
1. Pre-disaster: Preparedness
Our team monitors global alerts from trusted systems like the Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS) and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). We identify which disasters may demand international attention and corporate support, while also maintaining a vetted database of compliant disaster relief organizations so we’re ready to move quickly when crises hit.
2. Immediate response: Activation
When disaster strikes, we act fast. We verify the incident, identify nonprofits that are best positioned to respond (often a mix of local grassroots groups and larger NGOs), and prepare a customized Disaster Relief Toolkit. Each toolkit includes background on the crisis, trusted nonprofits, donation links, and opportunities for employee engagement. These toolkits have enabled companies to rally support in hours—not weeks.
During flooding in Texas, companies were connected to groups like Team Rubicon for rescue missions, World Central Kitchen for meals, and Austin Pets Alive for animal rescues. In the wake of the LA wildfires, partners supported the American Red Cross for shelter and immediate relief, the California Fire Foundation to support firefighters and their families, and the Direct Relief who provided N-95 masks, medicine, and other resources to healthcare agencies and first responders in wildfire-affected areas. These are just a sampling of the incredible organizations we’re able to surface up to companies who want to support relief efforts, creating moments of connection for teams while supporting their broader communities.
3. Post-disaster: Evaluation & reporting
Our team continues to monitor the situation over the short- and long-term, ensuring funds are delivered quickly to nonprofits to maximize impact. We then compile impact reports so companies and employees can see the results of their efforts, while gathering feedback to continue improving our processes and response.
Empowering companies & building long-term resilience
Corporate giving isn’t just about financial contributions, it’s about supporting the communities around us — the ones our teams and customers call home. We know that employees at companies across industries want to feel connected and empowered to help, which is why our toolkits include fundraising ideas, volunteer opportunities, and ways to spread awareness. Every action, whether it’s a $10 donation, a company match, or a team-led campaign, makes a difference and Goodstack makes it seamless for teams to support through their own native solutions, whether those are on their Goodstack giving platform or through tools like Slack. We’ve also enabled matching bonus capabilities to further incentivize contributions.
Disaster response is about more than immediate aid — the right support can help communities rebuild stronger. By guiding companies toward nonprofits with proven track records and focused work in this area, Goodstack ensures contributions go beyond short-term relief and lay the foundation for recovery.
Natural disasters will always be unpredictable, but with Goodstack, companies can move from intention to action quickly, confidently, and with real impact – get in touch with our team to learn more:
